Old Cemetery On The East Side Of Dunning Avenue
Auburn, New York (Cayuga County)

An 1882 Auburn, NY atlas map cites the existance of an "Old Cemetery" on a parcel located along the east side of South Division Street (now Dunning Avenue) in Auburn, NY.  The 1882 Auburn NY atlas map shows the adjacent land owned by E. L. Thornton.  To view a scanned image of the 1882 Auburn NY map, click HERE.  The countywide inventory of cemetery burials compiled by local historians and the D.A. R. in the early 1960s did not include information on burials in this cemetery.
A single headstone was discovered by utility workers while installing gas pipe on Tuesday September 28, 2004.  The headstone was reportedly found on the north side of St. Anthony Street a short distance east of Dunning Avenue in Auburn NY.  The inscription on the headstone reads:

FLORA  EVALINE

Daughter of
Israel & Margaret
MILES ,
DIED
Sept. 19, 1855 ,
Aged 2 yrs.
1 m. & 15 ds.
