Town of Locke - Cayuga County, NY

Located on Lot No. 33, on State Road No. 38, Locke-Groton Road, about 1 1/2 miles south from Locke hamlet, and about 500 feet west of the road. This cemetery is NOT shown on page 52 on the New Century Atlas of Cayuga County, NY, (1904). Copied 1954 by Leslie Luther, Moravia NY. Copies with: NY Gen. & Biog. In circa 1954, the former town historian for the Town of Moravia NY (Mr. Leslie Luther), compiled lists of cemetery burial information for many cemeteries in southern Cayuga County NY. His cemetery burial research is now contained in the collections of the Luther Research Center at the Cayuga-Owasco Lakes Historical Society in Moravia NY. Because many of the earliest burials within this cemetery appear to be for members of the "Bowker" family, he listed the cemetery name as: "Bowker Family Cemetery". Later, in the early 1960's, local Historians, together with members of the Owasco NY chapter of the DAR and Grange, attempted to compile a countywide inventory of burial information for Cayuga County NY. Within the 1960's cemetery listings, this same cemetery formerly identified by Leslie Luther as the "Bowker Family Cemetery", is now identified as the "Abbott Farm Family Cemetery". Apparently, the reference to "Abbott" was only to signify that this old family cemetery was located in an area commonly known (probably in the early 1960s) as "The Abbott Farm".
