- WETHY CEMETERY AKA (Also Known As:) CONWAY CEMETERY -
TOWN OF MENTZ, CAYUGA COUNTY, NEW YORK
Thin Color Line
In the early 1960s, two local historians (Flora Daniells & Mable Crosby) worked together with members of the Owasco Chapter DAR, Pomona Grange and other volunteers to compile a countywide inventory of cemetery burial information for Cayuga County NY. Copies of these cemetery records or gravestone transcriptions now reside in several locations, including the Cayuga County Historians Office and Seymour Public Library in Auburn NY. A version originally given to the Cayuga County Clerk Office (subsequently moved to the County Records Retention Office), included hand-drawn cemetery location maps within each volume. Please note that often these cemetery burial listings were derived by transcribing names & dates found on legible gravestones. Thus, additional burials may exist in these cemeteries! However, the gravestones were either missing, overgrown, damaged or illegible. The cemetery burial listings displayed on this website page were updated by Jessica Armstrong after visiting the cemetery in May 2020 and comparing legible gravestone inscriptions with the above referenced 1960s countywide cemetery records project.

Occasionally, the cemetery records compiled in the 1960s, included a notation citing that they came from 'Skilton Records'. This indicates that all or part of the listings for a specific cemetery may have been copied from an earlier inventory of cemetery burials compiled by Frank A. & Clara Skilton. Mr. Skilton was an attorney & businessman who devoted the last 30-years of his life to conducting historical and genealogical research. Mr. Skilton died on 6 January 1931 and some of his historical research records and those of his wife,Clara Maria Gilbert Skilton, included listings of tombstone inscriptions from graves in more than eighty Cayuga County, New York cemeteries. These 'Skilton' research records now reside at the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections; 2B Carl A. Kroch Library at Cornell University. - Cited as Skilton Family Papers, Collection Number: 1273.
