Note: These burial records were originally compiled in the early 1960's as part of a project by Local Historians and Members of the Owasco, NY Chapter of the D.A.R. This 1960s countywide cemetery burial inventory was often just a transcription of names & dates found on legible headstones.  Thus, the listings may not include any burials after about 1964.  There may be additional burial or record information not cited on this website page because headstones were missing or not legible. Copies of the burial listings found on this website page came from the 1960s Cayuga County NY cemetery burial roster project and were obtained courtesy of the Cayuga County NY Historian's Office.

I haven't been at your site in a long time and am amazed at how it has expanded. The cemetery lists are great, I especially appreciate the cross indexing, it is very helpful.

I have a small name correction on one of my ancestors. If there is interest in having this corrected perhaps you can pass this along to the proper person.

BENEDICT*, Nathaniel M. June 20, 1800 - Jan 28, 1855.
Matilda WILLIAMS, wife, Dec. 24, 1804 - Dec. 20, 1890.-Should be MALINDA WILLIAMS

Sources: My sources are my own observation at the French cemetery, also references in Benedicts in America genealogy, and in Barbour Vital Records of Bethel, CT.

Thanks again to anyone working on this site. It is indeed a blessing.

I have some additional information for a burial in French Cemetery

Erected by Ada M. STRATTON).
KNOWLTON, Matilda E. wife of Leander H. d. Apr 8, 1843, ae. (2?)1 yrs & 18 days.
In our Knowlton family bible Leander Knowlton's middle name is Walsingham
so the initial should be a W rather then a H.

In the bible Leanders first wife is listed as Evaline M Monroe born March 20, 1818
Leander's faher Henry Knowlton II married twice and his second wife was lsted as
Matilda died June 26, 1844 age 55 years. I was not sure of the spelling for the last name .

Leander's brother Charles Knowlton was the father of Ada M Knowlton Stratton.
Adaline Knowlton Stratton was born in Victory, NY. She was educated in the
public schools and in the Seminary at Red Creek, Wayne County, NY and afterwards
became a teacher. She has devoted herself to literary pursuits and has been a frequent
contributer to local papers and magazines of sketches and poems.

Adaline kept in touch with her cousins while they were living in Wsconsin.

Leander Knowlton married again in 1844 to my gggrandmother Maryette Christian Vought
of Butler, Wayne County, NY and along with his young son they migrated west.
