| E-Mail Sent: Tuesday, October 17, 2006 9:36 PM Subject: Re: Egypt / Rooker Family Cemetery "William L Rooker was already a resident of Conquest, NY at the time he purchased his 100 acre farm in 1817. The farm included land located near Egypt Road in the town of Conquest. It is believed that this cemetery had no official name until the DAR's thomstone inscription project of the 1960's. At which time it became listed as Egypt Cemetery as a locational reference. In 2006, it was discovered that William L Rooker reserved a small plot of land to be used as a family burial ground (per his will dated 1849). As a GGG niece to William L Rooker, there is sufficent evidence showing that this cemetery is in fact a Rooker family burial ground based on the relationships of those buried there. This cemetery inclues the founder of the cemetery; William L Rooker and his wife Lovina; his brother Zadok Rooker; his grand daughter in-law Harriet Frances Rooker (wife of his Grandson Joseph L. Rooker); his daughter Hannah (Rooker) Southwick and her son John Wesley Southwick; another daughter Sabrina (Rooker) Prowty and her daughter Mariette Prowty; plus his adotped grandson Francis G Walker. At present, it is not known if there are any additional burials or unmarked graves located at this site."

A portion of William L. Rooker's will is shown above. The will cites:
"I would here say that the lumber that is now on the premises and
at the mill , I want it should be taking to fence the burying ground
on my farm and to repair the buildings on said premises, and further it is
my wish that there should be four rods square of ground that is now occupied
for intering the dead, for my family buring ground,..."
