The following appeared in Tree Talks, Vol. 37 No. 2 June 1997, p. 86:

GARNSEY I (Philo Garnsey of Genoa) make my last will. I order one acre of land in the NW corner of my farm on lot 57 in Genoa be set apart for a burying ground. I give my wife Irene one pair of oxen, one mare, one cow of her choice, all my farming utensils, and half of my household furniture. I order my executor to sell so much of my land to bring $300. $176 to pay my obligation to Phenihas L. ROGERS, the residue to my wife Irene Garnsey. My wife must educate my youngest daughter Irene so she can read and write well. The rest of my personal estate I give my four daughters Eunis BEARDSLEE, the wife of John Beardslee; Betsey BELNAP, the wife of David Belnap; Polly Garnsey single woman; and Irene Garnsey to be divided equally. I give one third of my real estate to my wife and half the mansion house and half of the barn. I appoint my wife Irene and John LEVENSWORTH executors. 18 October 1809. Additions to the 1966 reading of FLEMING RURAL CEMETERY (also known as FLEMING HILL), Fleming, Cayuga County, New York, contributed by Alice A. Walker, Sunnycrest Farm, Route 1, Box 105, Blue Mound KS 66010. ************************************************************************
This cemetery was read in 1966 by Flora Danielles and Mable Crosby and copies made for NSDAR, New York State Library in Albany, and Cayuga County. Obviously, this row either was missed in the reading or in the arranging of the entries. The omission was discovered and the row read in September 1993 by Alice and Howard Walker of Blue Mound, Kansas. She is KSDAR State Librarian (1992-1995). Giving only general, and not precise, geographic directions, this missed row is in the older section which is in the southwest part of the cemetery. The row runs north and south. To the west are the stones of Oakley and Van Arsdale. To the east, the next row has a Culver stone clear at the south end. The north end of this missed row has two small stones with initials L.G. on one and L.S. on the other. The size indicates a foot stone, but I do not know that. There is a large gap in the row between those stones and the full size tombstones at the south end of the row. Pictures have been taken of all the tombstones and of the inscriptions on them. These people are inter-related and apparently were buried one after another by date of death. The 1811 death would make it one of the oldest burials in the cemetery.

Bernie, I found that the death year for Sarah M. Ingraham Pease in Fleming Hill Cemetery #50 is incorrectly given as 1942. Her obituary shows that she died 11 April 1972 at an age of 101.

If you post this on web site, please delete my e-mail address for spam control.

"Mrs. Edward Pease, 101, dies - Mrs. Sarah Ingraham Pease, 101, widow of Edward E. Pease, formerly of Mapleton and Fleming died Tuesday evening at the Auburn Nursing Home after a long illness. Born in Fleming, she had resided in Mapleton most of her life. She was a member of the Fleming Federated Church. Surviving are several cousins. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Langham Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph T. Johnson, pastor of Fleming Federated Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Fleming Rural Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the Memorial fund of Fleming Federated Church in her memory."

Hi, Bernie.  EmelineA. Gould and Charlotte (Lottie) A. Gould, daughters of Benjamin F.
Gould and Emeline A. Palmer, appear in both the lists for Fleming Hill Cemetery #50 in Fleming and Gould-Akin Cemetery #169 in Scipio NY.  The actual interments appear to be in the Gould-Akin Cemetery, but their names are inscribed on their parents' stone in Fleming Hill.  A cross-reference between lists may be desirable.

Thanks,
