August - 1867

Saturday 10th – A beautiful day. Matty (Rhoda’s son Madison Vorce) tonight.
Sunday 11th – Very pleasant.
Monday 12th – Good weather yet. Matty and Mary (maiden name Pulver, wife of Matthew) have gone back to Auburn this morning. Sevilla (Rhoda’s daughter, married to Charles Curtis) and the children came home in the morning. In the afternoon we visited Mrs. Pulver.
Tuesday 13th – It rained some in the forenoon. Sevilla has gone home this afternoon.
Wednesday 14th – It rained some tonight but pleasant through the day. Had company, Mrs. Gutchess just at night. Mrs. Carrier here today.
Thursday 15th – Beautiful day. Mrs. Berry came and visited. Tommy (Rhoda’s son) at home.
Friday 16th – It rained all afternoon.
Saturday 17th – A beautiful day.
Sunday 18th – Nice day, Charlie (Curtis) and Sevilla came home.
Monday 19th – Beautiful day.
Tuesday 20th – Cloudy and showers all around us but none here.
Wednesday 21st – Another beautiful day.
Thursday 22nd – Very pleasant. Mr. and Mrs. Pulver and Sheldon (Rhoda’s husband) and I went to Auburn to see Matt. He is sick. I stayed all night.
Friday 23rd – Pleasant and very warm. I am at Matty’s this morning. In the afternoon I came home on the stage.
Saturday 24th – It rained a very little this morning. I went back to Auburn this morning on the stage. Matt is no better.
Sunday 25th – Beautiful day. Matt is no better.
Monday 26th – Nice day. Matt is no better.
Tuesday 27th – Cloudy. Matt is no better
Wednesday 28th – It is pleasant. We think Matt is a little better.
Thursday 29th – We had a little shower at night. Matt is about the same. Sylvester and Sarah have been up here today.
Friday 30th – Nice day. Matt is so much better. He sat up to have his bed made.
Saturday 31st – It rained in the evening. Matt is not as well today. Mr. and Mrs. Pulver here. I came home at night in the stage. I never saw a more dusty time.

September 1867

Sunday 1st – It sprinkled a little at night. Charlie and Sevilla have been home today.
Monday 2nd – Beautiful day, no rain.
Tuesday 3rd - Another nice day but we had a hard rain at night that filled our cisterns. The first rain we have had of any account in a good while.
Wednesday 4th – Beautiful day.
Thursday 5th – Nice day. I am canning fruit today, blackberries.
Friday 6th – We had an awful shower about the middle of the afternoon. I went to a funeral in the afternoon, Eugene Yates. Matty and Mary came home tonight in the stage.
Saturday 7th – Pleasant. Tommy has gone to work.
Sunday 8th – Pleasant. Matt is no worse for his ride home. Charlie and Sevilla have been here today.
Monday 9th – Very pleasant and windy. Matt and Mary have gone down to Pulver’s today.
Tuesday 10th – It rained this morning. I went in the afternoon to Mrs. Pulver’s to help them quilt.
Wednesday 11th – Beautiful day.
Thursday 12th – Another beautiful day. I have had more company, Mrs. Steel.
Friday 13th – Pleasant. I am sick with a bad cold.
Saturday 14th – A beautiful day.
Sunday 15th – Pleasant and quite cool.
Monday 16th – Matty and Mary have come in the morning from Charlie.
Tuesday 17th – We had a nice shower in the morning. Matty and Mary has gone down to Pulver’s.
Wednesday 18th – Pleasant and very warm. I have received a letter today from Martha Lawrence. I have written back to her.
Thursday 19th – Pleasant and very warm.
Friday 20th – Pleasant and very warm yet.
Saturday 21st – Beautiful day. I went just at night to see Mrs. Vincent, she is sick.
Sunday 22nd – Beautiful day and cool.
Monday 23rd – Another beautiful day. Matty and Mary has come here this morning.
Tuesday 24th – Pleasant but cool. It begins to feel and look like Fall.
Wednesday 25th – We had a smart little shower this morning. Matt has gone to work.
Thursday 26th – Nice day. Mrs. Steel and Sarah came here toward night to drink tea.
Friday 27th – Beautiful day. We had company in the forenoon, Mrs. Pulver. In the afternoon we all visited Mrs. Berry.
Saturday 28th – Nice day. Matty and Mary went to Pulver’s last night.
Sunday 29th – It rained just at night.
Monday 30th – Nice day. Matty and Mary had gone home this morning. In the afternoon Mary Carrier came here.

October 1867

Tuesday 1st – Nice day
Wednesday 2nd – It rained a little. George Paine and his wife and two other ladies came here and ate dinner.
Thursday 3rd – It was a beautiful day.
Friday 4th – Pleasant. Sheldon has gone to Auburn.
Saturday 5th – It has rained some today. Charles and Sevilla have been home.
Sunday 6th – Cloudy but no rain. Mary has gone home today. Sheldon is sick. He has not set up but little today.
Monday 7th – Beautiful day. Sheldon is sick.
Tuesday 8th – Beautiful day. Sheldon was so sick this morning we sent for a doctor but he is better tonight. There is a rumor about Mrs. Buck a flying round town today.
Wednesday 9th – Beautiful day. Everything shows Fall. We have had some quite hard frosts.
Thursday 10th – Nice weather
Friday 11th – It rained last night. Has been cloudy through the day but no rain. Tommy has gone to Auburn today to work with Matt in the foundry. Harris and family have been here a spell.
Saturday 12th – It is rainy today. Charles and Sevilla have been home.
Sunday 13th – Beautiful day.
Monday 14th – Nice weather.
Tuesday 15th – We have got the nicest kind of Fall weather.
Wednesday 16th – Nice weather yet.
Thursday 17th – Another beautiful day. Charley and Sevilla has been home this evening.
Friday 18th – Beautiful day. Mrs. Root was here to dinner.
Saturday 19th – Beautiful weather yet.
Sunday 20th – Another nice day.
Monday 21st – Beautiful day.
Tuesday 22nd – It rained in the morning some. Matty and Mary went back to Auburn in the stage this morning. Charlie and Sevilla have gone to Auburn and Tommy went with them. Sevilla left the children here.
Wednesday 23rd – Beautiful day.
Thursday 24th – Another nice day. Mr. And Mrs. Ward drank tea here. They had been to Auburn. Charlie and Sevilla and Tommy came home from Auburn tonight.
Friday 25th – Good weather. Charlie and Sheldon and I took a ride up South from here. When we got back and ate our dinner they started for home. We went with them round by the depot and then back to the village.
Saturday 26th – Beautiful day. I had some calls in the afternoon. Mrs. Maggie and Allie Gutchess.
Sunday 27th – Beautiful day. I have been up in the graveyard to view the quiet and lonely resting places of the dead.
Monday 28th – Another beautiful day. I have been to a funeral this afternoon. Charlie Henry’s wife was buried after years of suffering.

November 1867

Saturday 9th – Beautiful day, warm like summer
Sunday 10th – Beautiful day.
Monday 11th – Nice day.
Tuesday 12th – We have had a little sprinkle of rain today.
Wednesday 13th – We have had a little sprinkle of snow today. We have had company. Griffin Davis and his wife and daughter and Mrs. Sarls.
Thursday 14th – It has rained a little. Mrs. Steel has come. She will stay all night.
Friday 15th – Pleasant but cold. Mrs. Steel and I went up to the graveyard in the afternoon and at night she went to Mrs. Pines and stayed all night.
Saturday 16th – The ground is white with snow this morning. Mrs. Steel has gone home tonight. About nine o’clock at night the village was aroused by the fire engine. Mrs. Hatfield’s house burned down.
Sunday 17th – The ground is white with snow again this morning and snows yet.
Monday 18th – Cloudy but no storm.
Tuesday 19th – No rain yet.
Wednesday 20th – No rain yet.
Thursday 21st – No rain yet.
Friday 22nd – We have had a little sprinkle of rain today. I went up to Mrs. Ward’s in the afternoon. At night I went to Harris’s house (Vorce, Sheldon’s brother) and stayed all night.
Saturday 23rd – I went to Oren Paddock’s in the afternoon and stayed there for dinner. Then I went back to Harris’s house and stayed all night. It rained smartly for a few minutes early in the morning.
Sunday 24th – Very nice day. Harris and Minerva (wife of Harris, maiden name Johnson) and I went to Henry Riker’s place. After I got back to Harris’s place Billy and Mary brought me home.
Monday 25th – A strong south wind and tonight it rained.
Tuesday 26th – Cloudy but no rain. Charlie and Sevilla have gone to Auburn. Minerva and Mary and George have been here. (Mary and George are children of Harris and Minerva Vorce)
Wednesday 27th – Cloudy but no rain.
Thursday 28th – Cloudy but no rain.
Friday 29th – It rained today. Old Mrs. Root is buried today.
Saturday 30th – Very stormy and snowed and the wind blows very hard and very cold.

December 1867

Sunday 1st – The ground is white with snow and cold.
Monday 2nd – Very pleasant but cold. Sevilla has come home from Auburn tonight.
Tuesday 3rd – Pleasant and a little warmer.
Wednesday 4th – It snowed some last night but a very good day.
Thursday 5th – Pleasant but cold.
Friday 6th – The South wind blew very hard all day and the forepart of the night.
Saturday 7th – We have had snow squalls all day. Matt and Mary came home in the morning and stayed until night. Then they went to Mrs. Pulver’s.
Sunday 8th – It has snowed all day like a shower. Sheldon is sick. We have called the doctor today. I should think by the appearance of things that winter has commenced. The roads are smooth and dry. It is a nice bottom for sleighing. All our streams of water and wells and cisterns are mostly dry. We have had no rain this fall to fill them up.
Monday 9th – It has snowed some today. Matt and Mary has gone back to Auburn this morning. There has been a funeral today, Henry Filkins.
Tuesday 10th – We have had some snow today.
Wednesday 11th – It has snowed some today. I went to Mrs. Highley’s shop to get a hood quilted.
Thursday 12th – I have forgotten if it snowed today or not.
Friday 13th – It has been quite cold. I have been to see Mrs. Wheaton as she is sick.
Saturday 14th – Pleasant and very cold.
Sunday 15th – Some snow this morning, a little warmer.
Monday 16th – It has snowed a little all day. We have killed our hogs today.
Tuesday 17th – It has snowed some today.
Wednesday 18th – It has snowed all day.
Thursday 19th – Very pleasant. Mrs. Ward has been here this afternoon.
Friday 20th – It has been a stormy forenoon. Snow and high wind.
Saturday 21st – Pleasant until evening. Then it snowed. We have had lots of company. Just before dinner David Carrier and his wife came here and stayed until night. Sevilla went home with them just after dinner. Harris and his wife came and stayed until night.
Sunday 22nd – It rained quite a good deal through the night. The south wind blows and it is quite warm. Our snow is melting fast.
Monday 23rd – Stormy day, wind and snow.
Tuesday 24th – It has snowed today.
Wednesday 25th – Christmas day. It rained in the morning. Our sleighing is spoiled.
Thursday 26th – Pleasant day.
Friday 27th – High wind and rain.
Saturday 28th – Pleasant. Mrs. Steel came here. She and I went down in the village and went to Mrs. Highley’s shop.
Sunday 29th – Cloudy and a cold wind. Mrs. Steel has gone home tonight. She and I went up to the graveyard to Sarah’s grave.
Monday 30th – It has snowed pretty much all day.

January 1868

Wednesday 1st – The first day of the new year is a very stormy day. It hails and snows. Sevilla and the children have gone to Auburn to hold their new years at night. Matt and Mary came home with Charlie and Sevilla.
Thursday 2nd – No storm today. In the afternoon Matt and Mary went to Mrs. Gutchess.
Friday 3rd – Pleasant today. We had company. Mrs. Vincent and Amy Spalding.
Saturday 4th – We have had all sorts of weather today. Warm in the morning and thaw so the snow was soft and sloppy. Rained some. Towards night the wind shifted and grew cold and snowed. Mr. And Mrs. Henry Riker visited here today.
Sunday 5th – We have had a beautiful day, just at night I went to see Mrs. Wheaton. She is no better.
Monday 6th – A beautiful day so far.
Tuesday 7th – Pleasant.
Wednesday 8th – Pleasant and cold.

Wednesday 22nd – Very good day. I went to see Mrs. Wheaton. I called to see Mrs. Miliner.
Thursday 23rd – No storms till night. Then it snowed and rained. We had company in the evening, Griffin Davis and his wife.

Saturday 25th – It has snowed some today. We had some calls in the evening. Mrs. Paddock and Herbie and Mrs. King.
Sunday 26th – It has snowed all day. Matt and Mary has been to home today but they have gone back tonight. We have had a call this afternoon. Mrs. Palmer.

Tuesday – 28th – Pleasant but cold. Just at dark Mary Carrier came here. She will stay all night.

February 1868

Saturday 1st – A beautiful day. I went to see Mrs. Wheaton in the afternoon, found her very low.
Sunday 2nd – Beautiful day till just at night then it snowed. Charlie went and carried us all up to Harris’s. Mrs. Wheaton died this evening about 11 o’clock. She bid farewell to her friends and left them to mourn their loss. She has suffered long but her troubles are done.
Monday 3rd – It has been a bright beautiful day.
Tuesday 4th – Mrs. Wheaton is buried today. It has snowed some today. Sheldon is not so well today. I have written to my sister Betsey.
Wednesday 5th – Pleasant and some warmer. Sheldon is not any better today.
Thursday 6th – Sheldon is no better this morning. It snows.
Friday 7th – It has snowed today. We have had company this afternoon. Mrs. Tallman and Lide.
Saturday 8th – It snowed at evening. We had company. Silas and Mary and Mary stayed.

Tuesday 11th – It has been a beautiful day. Matt and Mary have come home tonight. We had some company in the evening Mrs. Hasington.

Tuesday 18th – It has been a beautiful day. I went up to Rob Wheaton’s in the afternoon to see Cordelia and Lib Wheaton.

Thursday 20th – Pleasant. The snow is quite soft. The water runs in the streets.
Friday 21st – Pleasant and cold all froze up tight. We had company. Cordelia and Lib Wheaton and Mrs. Legg.
Saturday 22nd – Pleasant but cold. I went to Mrs. Longyear in the afternoon a spell to see Mrs. Vincent. Mr. Hallock had a cold. Betsey Longyear and I went in there a little while.

Friday 6th – It has rained all day. Snow is melting very fast.
Saturday 7th – It has rained the most part of the day. The water runs in the streets. How glad I shall be to see spring once more.

Tuesday 24th – Very pleasant but a cold wind. I made Mrs. Vincent a visit.

Thursday 26th – Another pleasant day. Matt and Mary came home at night.
Friday 27th – A beautiful day. Mrs. Steel came here in the forenoon. In the afternoon she and I visited Mrs. Pulver.

Tuesday 31st – Pleasant. Matt has moved back from Auburn today.

April 1868

Wednesday 1st – A beautiful day. Mrs. Demarest and Hattie and I went over to the lock to get some yeast.
Thursday 2nd – It has rained and snowed all day and cold.
Friday 3rd – Pleasant and cold.
Saturday 4th – Cold and cloudy. Snow a little several times through the day.
Sunday 5th – We have got quite a snow this morning. We have had several snow squalls through the day. Matt and Mary have been to home. Mary and I went up in the graveyard to see Russell Loveland monument. It sits in the graveyard but he is yet alive and well. But his monument is looked at by all that passes by. He is an old trapper and he has had all his trapping implements put on the stone. His canoe and paddle and hatchet and traps and a muskrat just a coming in to it. Below is a vault with a coffin in it and the old trapper in it and up to the top is some beautiful trees engraved on it. On the bottom is some poetry.

Here lies the old trapper known to us. We used to call him Uncle Russ
He was not the best yet not the worst. Laid in the tomb to turn to dust.

Monday 6th – Nice day, snow is about gone.
Tuesday 7th – It has snowed all like a shower.
Wednesday 8th – I went to Harris’s in the forenoon . Went home with George and Mary. It snowed all the time.
Thursday 9th – Pleasant but cold. Harris brought me home today.
Friday 10th – It has snowed all day. We have got quite a deep snow.
Saturday 11th – Quite pleasant through the day till just at night and now it rained and has all the evening. I think it will take some of our snow off.
Sunday 12th – Quite pleasant but cold.
Monday 13th – Pleasant nice day for washing.
Tuesday 14th – Pleasant till about the middle of the afternoon. It clouded over and rained all the evening. Mrs. Steel came here and stayed all night. Sevilla and the children went to Mrs. Pulver’s. They had to come home all the way in the rain.
Wednesday 15th – Pleasant but a hard wind. Mrs. Steel has gone home today. Mrs. Tyler called here a spell. Carrie and Libby Summers came here and stayed a spell. After they had all gone I went to Mrs. Berry’s and drank tea. She had a lot of other company.
Thursday 16th – Pleasant but a cool wind.
Friday 17th – It has rained some today.
Saturday 18th – It has been quiet cool and snowed some. I called on Mrs. Demarest.
Sunday 19th – Very pleasant in the forenoon. This afternoon it clouded over and rained some. Sheldon and I and George went to Mrs. Hoos to see the old lady. She is sick.
Monday 20th – Pleasant till at night then it rained. Mary came up in the morning and Matt came at night and went back with her.
Tuesday 21st – Pleasant so far. I have written to Illinois today.
Wednesday 22nd – Pleasant but cold.
Thursday 23rd – It is cold and we have had one real snow squall.
Friday 24th – Pleasant but cold. I went with Mrs. Berry in the morning back of Mrs. Yeagar’s to get some cowslips.
Saturday 25th – Pleasant but cold. Mrs. Deming came here from Michigan.
Sunday 26th – Pleasant but cool.
Monday 27th – Pleasant. Mrs. Deming went a way this morning up to Mrs. Ward.
Tuesday 28th – Very pleasant. Matt has gone to keeping today.
Wednesday 29th – We have had some rain. Minerva has been here. I have cleaned the parlor bedroom.
Thursday 30th – Cloudy and a very little rain. I have cleaned the parlor today.

Friday 1st – A beautiful day.
Saturday 2nd – We have had a nice rain today and some warmer.

Monday 4th – Nice day, Mrs. Steel came here.
Tuesday 5th – It is quite rainy. I have cleaned the setting room today. I wrote to Phebe.
Wednesday 6th – It rained some today. Mrs. Steel has gone today down to the river.
Thursday 7th – It has rained some today.
Friday 8th – Pleasant but cold. We have finished cleaning this forenoon.
Saturday 9th – A beautiful day, Sevilla and Freddy has gone over to see Mary Carrier.
Sunday 10th – A beautiful day. I have written to Ohio today.
Monday 11th – Beautiful weather.
Tuesday 12th – Nice day. Mrs. Deming came here in the afternoon.

Thursday 14th – A beautiful day. Mary and Matt have been home. Mary came to sew rags and Matt came up and got his dinner.

Saturday 16th – It rained some in the afternoon. Mrs. Deming and I visited Mrs. Highly. Our cherry plums and pear trees are all in blossom. They look beautiful and bid for an abundance of fruit.

Wednesday – It rained some in the forenoon, quite pleasant in the afternoon.
Thursday 21st – It has rained all day. Sheldon and I went over to see Matt and stayed all day.

Monday 25th – It rained some in the morning.
Tuesday 26th – Very pleasant and warm. Sheldon and I went up to see Harris in the afternoon. We called at Mrs. Ward’s a spell and then we went to George Lemon and stayed there until after tea, then went to Harris’s house.
Wednesday 27th – Pleasant until just at night it clouded over but no rain. George brought us home at night. Sevilla and Mrs. Deming went back with him.

Friday 29th – Pleasant and quite warm. Mrs. Deming came back today.

Sunday 31st – Very pleasant. Mrs. Deming and I went up to the grave to view the lonely resting place of the dead and the beauty of nature.

Monday 1st – Cloudy but no rain. I have got Mary Ann Carpet to work today.

Thursday 4th – Nice day. Mrs. Deming came back today.
Friday 5th – It rained a little in the morning. In the afternoon Mrs. Deming and I visited Mrs. Carness.
Saturday 6th – We had a hard shower in the afternoon. Mrs. Steel came to visit. It rained so she will stay all night.
Sunday 7th – Pleasant but cool. Mrs. Steel has gone home this morning.

Thursday 11th – Beautiful day. Sheldon and I and Mrs. Deming went to see Mary Carrier. Had a nice visit.

Sunday 14th – Pleasant and very warm. I went to a funeral in the afternoon. Mrs. Highly died very suddenly.

Monday 22nd – It rained all this forenoon. Harris and Minerva came here in the afternoon. When they went home I went with them as far as Matt’s. Mary was sick. Octavius Lewis’s wife died this evening.

Friday 23rd – The ground is covered with snow. This morning it was cloudy but no storm. David Carrier and his wife and Chancy Carrier visited here today. It seems like old times having Elsie around after a separation of many years.

Friday 14th – It rained today and is cool. We are at Mrs. Smith’s yet.
Saturday 15th – It is rainy today. We had a nice little shower. Mrs. Smith brought us to Savannah to take the 5 o’clock train for home but they changed the time and we missed the train. We had to wait until 10 o’clock at night. While we waited we went and got supper.
Sunday 16th – It is quite rainy today. Mrs. Harrison and his wife have been to visit today.
Monday 17th – it rained today. Charlie is sick this afternoon.
Tuesday 18th – Cloudy but no rain.
Wednesday 19th – Cloudy but no rain but very cool. Charlie is sick again this afternoon.
Thursday 20th – Pleasant but cold for this time of year.
Friday 21st – Pleasant. I wrote to Tommy today.
Saturday 22nd – We had a hard frost last night. It is pleasant today and some warmer.
Sunday 23rd – Pleasant and quite warm. Mary and I went to see Mrs. Hoos as she is sick and we called on Mrs. Watson.
Monday 24th – Pleasant and quite warm compared to what it has been.
Tuesday 25th – Pleasant and warm.
Wednesday 26th – Pleasant until just at night and then it got cold and rained.
Thursday 27th – Pleasant but cold. Sheldon, Harris, Minerva and I took the train and went to visit Freeman Vorce. We found them all well.
Friday 28th – Cloudy but pleasant.
Saturday 29th – It rained in the morning. Freeman brought us to the depot. We took the train and came home all right. We had a first rate visit with them. When we got home we had a letter from Tommy and hat was better that all the rest to hear good news from him once more.
Sunday 30th – Cloudy but no rain. I wrote to Tommy.

Tuesday 1st – Cloudy but no rain. It grows warmer every day.
Wednesday 2nd – Pleasant and warm.
Thursday 3rd – Pleasant and warm. I have put on a quilt today.
Friday 4th – It has been rainy all day.

Monday 7th – We had frost last night on the 7th day of June.
Tuesday 8th – Cloudy and rained some just at night.
Wednesday 9th – Pleasant. Mrs. Ward came and stayed for tea and then Mr. Ward carried us to Harris’s.
Thursday 10th – It has been quite rainy today.
Friday 11th – Several spells of rain today. In the morning George carried Minerva, Amy and I down to Henry Riker’s. I stayed all night. Eliza was really sick all night with a pain in her side.
Saturday 12th – I am at Henry Riker’s as Eliza is still sick. Dr. Quinn has been here this afternoon.
Sunday 13th – Cloudy. I was at Henry’s in the morning. Harris came after Minerva and I and brought us home.
Monday 14th – Cloudy and rained.
Tuesday 15th – Pleasant.
Wednesday 16th – We have one hard shower. Sevilla and I and Mrs. Berry visited with Mrs. Murdock.
Thursday 17th – Very pleasant. I have been to Mrs. Little’s today and just we just received a letter from Tommy.
Friday 18th – Pleasant. Sevilla has gone to Gus Houghtaling with Sarah Gutchess. Mrs. Steel came here on a visit.
Saturday 19th – Pleasant. I went up to Mrs. Hegger’s in the afternoon and got some butter.
Sunday 20th – We had a very hard shower in the morning.
Monday 21st – Pleasant.
Tuesday 22nd – It rained very hard last night.
Wednesday 23rd - It rained again last night and we had a hard shower this forenoon.
Thursday 24th – We have had a very pleasant and quite warm.

Saturday 26th – Pleasant and nice day. I have got my quilt off today.

Monday 28th – It rained today. We have received a letter from Phebe today.
Tuesday 29th – It is pleasant today. Harris came after me to go to Henry Riker’s to help take care of Eliza. She is very sick. I went there the 29th day of June and stayed there until the 14th day of July. They were without help and she was very sick. I could not leave them. I cannot pen down all that occurred in that time as I did not have m book with me.

Wednesday 14th – I came home today. Eliza seems to be some better and I hope it will last.
Thursday 15th – We had a hard rain last night but pleasant during the day. I have been canning fruit.

Monday 2nd – Nice day. We all went down in the village to see a man walk the rope.

Wednesday 4th – It rained in the middle of the afternoon. We had company in the afternoon. Mrs. Carrier and Mrs. Cloud.
Thursday 5th – Very pleasant. Churned a crock of butter today.
Friday 6th – Pleasant but cool.
Saturday 7th – It rained very hard last night but pleasant during the day.

Tuesday 17th – Pleasant. Camp meeting begins today.
Wednesday 18th – Pleasant. Sevilla has gone to see Mrs. Vincent.
Thursday 19th – Pleasant. Today Tommy is 21 years old.
Friday 20th – It rained at night.
Saturday 21st – It rained hard in the forenoon. David Curtiss came from Michigan and got here about 2 o’clock in the afternoon. He is sick.
Sunday 22nd – Pleasant. The streets are alive with people going to camp meeting.

Wednesday 1st – I have gotten home from Mrs. Vincent’s.
Thursday 2nd – Pleasant. Mrs. Deming came here from Cato in the morning and in the afternoon Delia and Allie Bayles came here from Ohio.
Friday 3rd – Pleasant. We have had company, Hannah Daines. David went home with her.
Saturday 4th – Pleasant.
Sunday 5th – Pleasant.
Monday 6th – Pleasant. Delia and Allie have started for home this morning. I went to Mrs. Vincent’s and sat up with her. She died this morning at 5 o’clock.
Tuesday 7th – It rains this morning. I stayed until night with Mrs. Vincent.
Wednesday 8th – I went to Mrs. Vincent’s funeral this morning at 10 o’clock. It rained at night.
Thursday 9th – It was rainy all day. I went with Sheldon east of Weedsport to see about some wood he bought and he went to pay the money for it.

Saturday 18th – Pleasant. David was taken worse last night between 10 and 11. He continued very short of breath all day and quite restless by spells until fifteen minutes after 7 in the evening and then he bid farewell to this world
Sunday 19th – Charlie has gone with David this morning to take him home to Michigan. He went on the six fifty five.

Rhoda Baldwin was born in 1802 in Bridport Vermont. Her parents were Josiah and Martha Baldwin. She married Sheldon Vorce
and they had seven children. They farmed in Throop next door to the Vorce homestead and when Sheldon retired they moved to Port Byron.
Rhoda died in 1879 and Sheldon died in 1890 in Ness City Kansas while on a visit to his daughter Sevilla and her husband Charlie Curtis.
