CAYUGA COUNTY VITAL RECORDS

Website links provided on this page portray some of the few vital records  currently (or previously) accessible via privately compiled transcriptions available at the Cayuga County Historian's Office. Other municipal vital records after 1880 are only available from the NY State Health Dept. or the local clerk or registrar 's office where the event occurred.  Access to these records is restricted and generally, the records are available only to the individual or a member of his or her immediate family.   Conventional vital records usually do not exist prior to 1880.  For more information concerning availability and fees, see the NY State Health Dept. Vital Records website or contact the local clerk /registrar in the municipality where the event occurred.
The New York State Death Records Index for 1880-1956 was uploaded in May 2017 to the Internet Archives website and is available HERE. Be aware that, depending on the year, these files may be HUGH and images may be in TIFF format. The death records index files are available by year and can vary in size and format. Early years are smaller in file size and more recent years may be very difficult to download at 10GB-20GB.
